Welcome. This is my first blog in efforts to record the progress we are going to make in working with The Atlanta Community Food Bank. Accountants One (A1) is beginning a new outreach project, in conjunction with our philosophy of helping the community. The Food Bank is currently distributing over 2 million pounds of food and other non-perishable items each month to more than 800 nonprofit partner agencies. This year the demand for food is already over a half million pounds ahead of last year's need.
Over the past 5 months, the Food Bank has spent over $400,000 more than in the same 5 month period of last year. They have also found that 18% of the respondents from their on-going survey with partner agencies have reported having to turn people away and/or reduce the number of people/families served because of lack of food resources. They expect these needs to only increase as the summer approaches and children, over 20% of which live in poverty in Georgia, will not have access to school meals.
A1 is starting our efforts to help by collecting donations internally. We have collection barrel here at our office for employees to donate these much needed items. We will soon be reaching out to other businesses in Atlanta in hopes of helping with the increase need the Food Bank is currently experiencing.
Our goal is to collect 20 full barrels of food from across the city. Can you help?
